Help & answers
Frequently asked questions
Getting started
- What is Fuelytics?
- Fuelytics is a fuel-tracking app for people who care about their cars. Log each fill-up — or snap a photo and let Fuelytics read it for you — Fuelytics turns it into fuel-economy and cost trends for every vehicle you own.
- Do I need to install anything?
- No. Fuelytics runs right in your web browser — just open the sign-in page at /sign-in. Dedicated phone apps are on the roadmap, but everything works in your browser today, including the camera capture.
- How do I sign up?
- Head to the sign-in page at /sign-in and create an account however suits you — email + password, a one-tap email sign-in link, or your phone number with an SMS code. Confirm the verification we send (email or text), then add your first vehicle and you’re ready to log a fill-up.
- I signed up but didn’t get the verification email.
- Check your spam/junk folder first. If it’s not there after a few minutes, the quickest fix is to sign up with your phone number and an SMS code instead — it skips email entirely. Still stuck? Reach out (see Support & getting help) and we’ll get you sorted — we’d rather hear from you than have you stuck at the front door.
- How do I add a vehicle?
- Once you’re in, add a vehicle with its name and details. You can track as many vehicles as you like — daily driver, project car, the whole household fleet.
- Can I allow other users to add fill-ups to my vehicles?
- Yes. You can invite other users by email or phone number to create an account and then to log fill-ups and events to your vehicles. You control their access (Owner, contributor, or viewer). For instance, in a family with 3 drivers and 4 cars, all users in the group can add fill-ups to all the vehicles in the group.
- Can I get my data out?
- Yes. Fuelytics lets you export your fill-up history as a CSV file you can open in any spreadsheet app — handy for your own records, taxes, or just crunching numbers your way. You can export everything you’re allowed to see, or narrow it to a single vehicle. Your vehicle events (maintenance and repair entries) export to their own CSV the same way. The export covers the data in your group that you have access to; it isn’t a download of photos or other users’ private accounts.
AI fill-up capture (the camera feature)
- What is AI fill-up capture?
- Instead of typing in your numbers, you take two photos — one of the fuel pump (gallons + price) and one of your odometer (mileage) — Fuelytics reads them for you and pre-fills the data. You check it and save.
- How do I use it?
- When you add a fill-up, choose the camera option, snap the pump display, then snap the odometer. We read the numbers, show you what we detected, and you confirm or correct before anything is saved.
- How accurate is it?
- It’s good, but it’s not magic — readouts, lighting, and glare may skew results. That’s exactly why we always show you the extracted numbers to confirm before saving. Think of it as “the app types, you approve.” If something’s off, fix it in one tap before you save.
- What makes a good photo?
- Get the numbers in frame, in focus, and reasonably well-lit. A straight-on shot of the pump total and a clear odometer reading work best. If a number is smudged or glared out, just type that one in.
- Do I have to use the camera?
- Not at all. You can always log a fill-up by typing it in. The camera is there to save you the keystrokes.
Using the app
- What does Fuelytics actually show me?
- Per-vehicle fuel economy and cost trends built from your fill-ups — so you can see how a car is really doing over time, not just guess.
- Can I track more than one vehicle?
- Yes. Track as many as you want, each with its own history and trends.
- Can I share with my household / a group?
- Fuelytics supports groups so the right people can see the right vehicles.
- Does it work on my phone’s browser?
- Yes — including the camera capture. Native phone apps are on the roadmap.
Account & access
- What do I get when I sign up?
- Your own space to add vehicles and start logging. New accounts are set up so you own and control your own data.
- I forgot my password.
- Use the password-reset option on the sign-in screen; we’ll email you a reset link. (Didn’t get it? See the email troubleshooting in Getting started and Support & getting help.)
Privacy & your data
- Who can see my data?
- Your fill-ups and vehicles are yours. Fuelytics is built so that access is scoped to you and any other user you explicitly share with — the server enforces this, not just the screen.
- Do you log my location?
- Only with your explicit approval. When you define a vehicle in your group, there’s an option to “Capture gas-station location at fill-up.” It’s off by default. When you enable it, Fuelytics logs your location in the fill-up data. You can turn it off any time, but location already captured stays with that fill-up in your history.
- What happens to my photos when I use AI capture?
- Your pump and odometer photos are sent to our AI provider (Anthropic’s Claude) only to read the numbers off them. We don’t store the photos on our servers after the reading, and they are never used to train AI. Our use of the provider is governed by a formal data-processing agreement.
- How long does the AI provider keep my photos?
- Under our current agreement, the provider may retain processing data for up to 30 days for operational and safety purposes, and never uses it to train models. This 30-day window is our standing retention period for this data.
- Is my data used to train AI?
- No. Your content is not used to train AI models.
- How do I delete my account or data?
- Sign in and open Help, then choose the account-deletion / privacy request. Once we verify it’s really you, your account is deactivated right away — you won’t be able to sign in — and it enters a 30-day deletion grace period. During that time your data isn’t erased; it’s held, suppressed, so the deletion can still be undone.
- Changed your mind? Deletion is reversible for 30 days. Contact support through Help, re-verify your identity, and we’ll restore your account with your fill-ups, vehicles, events, and group memberships intact.
- At day 30, deletion becomes permanent and irreversible. Your account and personal data are purged, and your name is removed from any shared records you contributed to. After this point it cannot be undone.
Cost
- Is Fuelytics free?
- Yes — Fuelytics is free to start, no credit card required. We may introduce paid options down the road, but the core fuel-tracking experience is free today.
- Is there a catch with the AI capture being free?
- No catch — it’s part of the free experience. If automatic photo reading is ever temporarily unavailable (we cap total daily AI usage to keep costs sane), you can always enter the fill-up manually — nothing is lost.
Mobile & what’s next
- Is there an iPhone / Android app?
- Not yet — Fuelytics is a web app today and works great in your phone’s browser. Dedicated mobile apps are on the roadmap; we’ll announce them when they’re ready.
Support & getting help
- How do I get help or send feedback?
- Sign in and use the Help form in the web app — it’s the fastest way to reach us. If you can’t sign in, use the “Having trouble logging in?” link on the sign-in page and we’ll follow up. We read everything, especially during these early days — if something’s broken or confusing, tell us.
- How do I report a security issue?
- Use the Report a security issue form at /report-security — no sign-in required. Tell us what you found and how to reach you, and we’ll follow up.
